Honoring Fannie Lou Hammer: Advocating for True Representation in Voting

I had the opportunity to participate in a panel discussion on voting after a remarkable one woman play on Fannie Lou Hammer. Fannie Lou was an independent trailblazer who organized the Miss. Democratic Freedom Party in 1964 when the State's Democrats refused Blacks entry, participation and right to vote in the Party system.
During the panel discussion all of my traditional colleagues follow the narrative that Blacks must vote and be excited. However, we differed. Instead, Blacks must have candidates and politicians who represent their interests and concerns. In essence, if you want Black interest, you must speak to the holistic needs of the people.
